The founder and Director of this family run business is Eugene Lambert, well known to the older generation as O'Brien, the character he played for sixteen years in the R.T.E. series Wanderely Wagon.
The Lambert Theatre is the only purpose built puppet theatre in Ireland . The theatre operates throughout the year on Saturdays and Sundays, with performances at 3.30pm, and productions change monthly.
The repertoire varies from fairy tales to Irish legends. All of the puppets sets and costumes are made by the Lamberts in their workshops, also housed at the theatre.
The school tour season begins in May and runs until the end of June each year, although it is possible to visit the theatre at any time of year. If you have 60 children or more a special performance can be arranged.
The Puppet Theatre also houses a small museum which can be viewed after the performance by special arrangement. Various Lambert puppets are on display, as well as puppets from around the world. Lambert Puppet Theatre also hosts an annual International Puppet Festival, now in its seventh year.
Puppet Companies from around the world have played at the theatre. Twenty different countries have been represented at this ten day event, all bringing with them their individual styles of puppetry .Some of the highlights of the festival have included puppet productions from India, Slovakia, Mali and USSR.
Last year the theatre's own video production company 'Lambert Media Productions' was set up. The Lamberts have since produced two videos "Hansel and Gretel" and "The Three Little Pigs" these videos are now available from the Theatre Shop, by mail order and through this web-site.
The Lambert Puppet Theatre is not only a place of entertainment, it is a wonderful educational introduction to the world of theatre for children of all ages.
